LOUIS WEASELBOY SR. Obituary

ROCKY BOY Louis Weaselboy, Sr. Pine Bird, 84, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, of natural causes at the Community Medical Center in Missoula, Montana, surrounded by family.

Traditional services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at the Lutheran Church in Rocky Boy with Kenneth Gopher officiating. Burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Louis was born Nov. 11, 1922 in Pryor, Mont., to Barney Weaselboy and Walking A n t e l o p e Fine Bow. He married Lucy Samatt March 27, 1948 and t o g e t h e r they raised their eight children in Rocky Boy, where he lived and worked most of his life. Louis worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, forestry division and later retired in November of 1988 following 20 years of service. He also served in the United States Army and served two tours of duty during World War II. He entered the Army at Fort Ord California and was stationed in Austria and Vienna Germany and later honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington, he served as a medical aid-man. Louis was awarded a victory medal and an occupation medal for his service. He was also the last surviving World War II veteran on the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation. Louis enjoyed riding horses, and had trained and broke horses in his earlier years. He loved watching boxing, rodeo, sports and dancing in the Powwow, most notably with his grandchildren and late wife. He devoted his life to his traditional beliefs as he continued to serve as a scout to the sacred pipe and sweet grass ceremonies until he was not physically capable. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lucy Samatt Weaselboy; one brother, George Weaselboy; two sons, Melvin Louis Weaselboy Sr. And Morris Lee Weaselboy; and one grandson, Michael Rehfeld. Louis is survived by his children, Constance (Larry) Farmer of Fort Hall, Idaho, Max (Sara) Weaselboy of Rocky Boy, Martin (Noreen Day Child) Weaselboy of Rocky Boy, Linda (Joseph) Monteiro Sr. Of Butte, Louis (Bernadine Wolf Child) Weaselboy Jr. Of Rocky Boy, Lorraine (Kelly) Sosnoski of Portland, Oregon, Diana (Mike Crow Feather) Weaselboy of Tuba City, Arizona and Jana (Kenneth Ellis) Weaselboy of Missoula; nephew, Alex Weaselboy of Rocky Boy; niece, Eliza Small of Rocky Boy; 36 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
