RUSSELL ALDEN MOYER obituary

Russell Alden Moyer, 63, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at his home of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Holland and B o n i n e F u n e r a l Chapel with R o w l i e Hutton officiating. The military flag will be presented after the service by the U n i f i e d Veteran's Council. Russell was born Feb. 17, 1944, in Pensacola, Fla., to Walter and Alice (Bulcock) Moyer while his father was in the Navy. Russell graduated from Surrattsville Sr. High School in Maryland also attended Prince George's Community College. He enlisted in the United States Navy at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland in February of 1962. He was an electronic communications specialist who worked on radios and electronic equipment for the planes. He attended AFU “A” School and AQF “A” School. He served for four years and was honorably discharged in 1966. He transferred from Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone to Montana to work for the Mountain Bell Phone Company, which became US West then Qwest. He retired in 2003 after 34 years. He married Patricia Woodworth Oct. 4, 1985 in Havre; they had one son. Russell was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, son, brother and friend; a good man who was known for his honesty and truthfulness. He was a well educated, highly skilled person who valued a slower paced and simple lifestyle. Russell made hand-forged custom knives for many years and has sold them all over the world. He enjoyed shooting sports, reloading, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the American Bladesmith Society, Weapons Collectors Association, Havre Rifle and Pistol Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice Moyer. Russell is survived by his wife Patricia “Pat” Moyer of Havre; son, Russel “Alden” Moyer II of Havre; daughter, Shelby (Moyer) Bakich and husband Roddo of Billings; two brothers, Robert Moyer of Marbury, Md., and Richard Moyer of Clinton, Md.; nephew, Bryan of Eastern Shore, Md.; niece, Susan of Clinton, Md.; and three grandchildren: Camden, Sydney and Brekken Bakich of Billings. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Havre Rifle and Pistol Club P.O. Box 1777 Havre, MT 59501. Following the service there will be a celebration of the life of Russ at Norsman Sporting Arms and Outfitters in the old post office building. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
