HAYS - Kenneth Lawrence Doney Jr., 45, whose Indian name, Po(x)a Agon Bo, meaning “Lump on Nose,” a former tribal prosecutor and judge, died of complica - tions from cancer and liver disease Monday at a Great Falls hospital.

A wake and rosary was at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at St. Paul's Mission gym. Traditional services are 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the gym, with burial in Eagle Child Cemetery. Kenneth was born July 5, 1961, to Kenneth L. and Georgialee Theresa “Chena” (Long Knife) Doney, in Glasgow. He grew up in Hays and Lewistown and received his GED in 1979. He then attended the University of Montana in Missoula, graduating with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a minor in criminology. After graduation, he returned to Fort Belknap to work for the Fort Belknap police force. He went on to become a tribal court prosecutor and eventually a tribal court judge. After retiring from the bench, he worked as a tutor in the Hays/Lodgepole schools, where he loved the kids and was a great influence for good in their lives. Kenny was a member of the Native American Church, a sun dancer, and pipe carrier. He loved being with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his in-laws, Elsie and the late Bob Geboe. He was preceded in death by his mother Georgialee Theresa Long Knife Doney; and eldest son Kenneth Lawrence “Popeye” Doney III. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Pamela Geboe; sons Sundown L. Doney of Wisconsin, Robyn James (Sheena) Doney, Justin Paul Doney, Na Thay-AT Holy Weasel “Eagle” Doney, Forest Rain Spirit “Beaver” Doney, all of Hays, and Donovan (Kacey) Big Leggins of Arapahoe, Wyo.; his father, Kenneth L. Doney Sr. Of Lewistown; sisters, Nona (Joe Shields) Long Knife of Harlem; Sheila (Gerald) Martin and Lana Long Knife of Hays and Petrina (Kenny) Ariwite of Idaho; a special aunt, Ruby “Snabby” Brockie of Hays; and three grandchildren, with two more expected shortly. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.
