MADELEINE THERESE GILMORE obituary

CHINOOK Madeleine Therese Gilmore, 79, died Thursday, April 26, at the Northern Montana Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral mass was T u e s d a y , May 1, at 11 a. m. in St. G a b r i e l ' s C a t h o l i c Church with burial following in Kuper M e m o r i a l Cemetery. Rosary was recited on M o n d a y , April 30, at 7 p.m. in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. Madeleine was born Oct. 17, 1927 to George and Della (Powell) Lariviere in Gravelbourg, Sask. She grew up in Canada and attended school in Gravelbourg and later business school in Moose Jaw. She ventured to Montana and there she met her husband Meredith. They fell in love and married on May 22, 1947. They made their home in several places around Montana, including Zortman, Big Fork, and Chinook. She ran a yarn shop, took care of apartments, and was the City Judge in Chinook for several years, and still had time for her family. She was a woman of great wit and good humor right up to the time of her death. Madeleine's hands were seldom idle, if she wasn't knitting or crocheting, she was working on a puzzle, a poem or a short story. Her passion for knitting and crocheting ensured that everyone received a handmade sweater or afghan at some point in time. Her biggest passion was her family; any little kid could melt her heart, right then and there. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Meredith, in January 2007; son, Jim Gilmore in January 2003 and older sister, Rosemary. Madeleine is survived by her children, Michaela Getschman of Missoula, Meredy (George) Scofield of Chinook, Marlane (Kent) Wenzel of Verndale, MN, Terry (Deanna) Gilmore of Zurich; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters-inlaw, Leona Gilmore, Marian Gilmore both of Chinook; brother, Francis (Hilda) Lariviere of Regina, Sask.; sister, Suzanne Stevens of Calgary, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews.
