CHINOOK Norma Eudora Dickson, 104, died Saturday April 21, 2007, of natural causes at her residence in Chinook.
A memorial service is being planed for a latter date. Cremation has taken place. N o r m a was born Oct. 16, 1902, to John C. and Anna ( R o g e r s ) Cronk, Sr. In Fairfax, Iowa. At a few weeks of age she returned with her mother to the Cronk “T-X” Ranch in Coburg. She grew up on the ranch and attended school in Coburg and graduated from Chinook High School in 1920. Attending school was a hit or miss situation with the weather, teacher shortage and work on the ranch. She then went on to Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; University of Wisconsin- Stout at Menomonee, Wisc.; University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wis.; and Eastern Washington University at Cheney, Wash. She taught school in Spangler, Wash., and Okanogan, Wash., before returning to Coburg to marry her long time sweetheart Dr. Joseph Robert Dickson, Dec. 29, 1932, at the Cronk Family “T-X” Ranch in Coburg. To this union four children were born. During her life she worked as a ranch hand on the “T-X” Ranch, taught elementary school and raised her children. Her favorite horse was “Rat” because he was a good cutting horse. Norma was a member of Northern Star Chapter No. 23 OES, American Legion Auxiliary, Presbyterian Church, Blaine County Senior Citizens Center, Chinook Chamber of Commerce and Community Concerts, and was a Girls State advisor. She enjoyed word puzzles, homemaking, gardening, reading, school activities and traveling. Norma is preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years in 1964; parents John (1935) and Anna Cronk (1962); brothers James R. Cronk (1981); John C. Cronk (2001); and sister Ruth E. Ekegren (1996). Norma is survived by sons Joseph R. (Nancy) Dickson, Fairfax, Minn., James C. (Shirley) Dickson of Carmichael, Calif., and George W.H. (Eileen) Dickson of Granite Bay, Calif.; daughter Marilyn R. Dickson- Gregg of Albuquerque, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
