DON BERRY obituary

MEDFORD, Ore. Don W. Berry, 84, of Medford, Ore., died recently.

A memorial service wil be held at a later date. Don was born Jun 21, 1922, at Havre to Ruth and Dee Berry. He attended Havre schools and graduated from Havre High School in 1940. He was an Eagle Scout and worked as an airway observer at the U.S. Weather Bureau. He graduated from Oregon State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in entomology and later earned a Master of Science degree from the University of California in Davis. In 1943, Don joined the U.S. Air Force and trained as a navigator. He served in Italy in the 15th Air Force, 455 bomb group, 742 squadron. After World War II, he returned to Oregon and worked for a couple of agricultural chemical companies. Don spent 27 years working as a Jackson County horticultural agent for Oregon State University. He retired in 1984 as a professor emeritus. He was then a partner in several pear and peach orchards in the Medford area, then got involved in cattle ranching in Montana. While in Oregon, he was president of the Medford Host Lions Club and was a member of Rogue Investments. He was deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Medford. He also was a member of the Agricultural Chemicals and Fertilizer Association, Epsil0n Sigma Phi and the Entomological Society of America. Don enjoyed playing cornet in the Medford Lions band, his ranch in Montana, orcharding in the Rogue Valley and trailer traveling with his wife of 54 years, Audrey. Don was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia; and brother, William. Survivors include his wife, Audrey; daughter, Susan (Jerry) Zimmerman of North Dakota; aunt, Eunice Berry of Havre; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four nephews. Arrangements are by Hillcrest Memorial Park Mortuary in Medford.
