HUTCHINSON, Kan. Robert P. “Bob” Cowan, 89, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson with Pastor Harold E. Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until service time Thursday. Bob was born Jan. 26, 1918, in LaJunta, Colo., to Richard William and Nellie (Smith) Cowan. He was educated in Nickerson, Kan. Bob served in the U.S. Navy. He was a heating technician and served as a civilian employee at Hutchinson Naval Air Station. When it closed, he was a civilian employee at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kan., until his retirement. He married Loretta P. Stark on Nov. 24, 1941, in Lyons, Kan. Bob was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 in Hutchinson and of Paradise Pasture Golf Club. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta on Oct. 24, 2000; daughter, Linda Carthers in 1969; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include his sons, Jim (Gale) Cowan of Burrton, Kan., and Jerry (Betsy) Cowan of Hutchinson; sister, Betty Baltrusch of Havre; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
