OTTO STUBER obituary

Otto Stuber, 75, died Friday, March 30, 2007, at his home in Havre, surrounded by his loving family, at the end of his courageous fight with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer).

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Dahle officiating. Cremation will take place after the service. Interment with military honors will then take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Havre. Anyone caring to have special memories of Otto shared at the service is encourage to drop them at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home by 5 p.m. today. Otto Stuber was born to Andrew and Anna Sophia (Baier) Stuber on June 22, 1931, at the family farm near Martin, N.D. Otto was the last child of 12 to bless the Stuber family. Otto was introduced to his wife of 53 years, LuVern Jans, by her cousin on June 20, 1949. The young couple was inseparable from the beginning, but Otto answered a call to duty and enlisted in the Navy in March, 1952. Otto and LuVern were married two years later, when Otto was able to come home on leave. They were the first couple married in the new Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, N.D. Otto was discharged from the Navy in March 1956 after four years of proud service to his country. Otto and LuVern moved to Havre to be closer to other Stuber family members and start their family. A son, Wade Otto, and daughter SharlaRae Marie followed soon after. Upon their arrival in Havre, Otto briefly worked for Noel Davidson in the construction business but had an opportunity to go to work for G. E. Teel as a plumber's laborer. After 12 years with Teel, Otto left as a journeyman plumber to work as a foreman for Nault Plumbing and Heating in Havre. During his time with Nault, Otto became a certified welder. Otto went on to manage Brumley Plumbing & Heating and to earn his master plumber license before he and LuVern opened their own successful plumbing shop, Stuber Plumbing & Heating, in March 1977. Otto & LuVern retired in 1993. Otto was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, gardener and accomplished trap shooter. He was a dedicated and tireless booster of the sport of trapshooting all over Montana and was a life-member of the Havre Trap Club, Lewistown Trap Club and the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He also enjoyed serving many years as a director for the Montana State Trapshooting Association. His favorite event was trap doubles, excelling in the senior and senior vet classes through his final season in 2006. Otto's special trapshooting memories included his 100 straight in a Zone Handicap event in Spokane, Wash., and his trip to Vandalia, Ohio, in 1993 with his Canadian friends. He was very grateful for the friends he had made all over the U.S. and Canada. His yard and garden were a great source of pleasure and pride for Otto, always the farmer at heart. He was also an active member and sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, the Eagle's Club and VFW, serving on the Veteran's Honor Guard for more than 13 years. Otto was very proud of his military service and his 37 years of helping people as a plumbing professional. He was sustained by his deep Christian faith and was a hard working, loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, provider, and friend. He was happiest to the very end in the midst of his loving family. Otto had a very special place in his heart for his beloved grandson, Zach. Otto was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; two sisters; son, Wade Otto Stuber. Survivors include his wife, LuVern Stuber of Havre; daughter, SharlaRae Stuber-Kuka (Tom) of Bozeman; grandson, Zachary Wade Bachini of Bozeman; sisters, Mary Heim of Steele, N.D., and Agnes Lautt of Fargo, N.D.; brother, Bill Stuber of Fargo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Otto's honor may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church, Havre Trap Club, Montana Trapshooting Association or to a memorial of one's choice. Services and arrangements have been arranged by Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
