SOPHIA HEALY obituary

LODGE POLE Sophia M. Healy, 81, died Sunday March 25, 2007, at Fort Belknap Public Health Service due to natural causes.

A wake will begin on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Medicine Bear Lodge followed by a rosary at 7 p. m. Her funeral Mass will be Thursday held at 11 a. m. at Medicine Bear Lodge with burial following at the Lodge Pole Cemetery. Sophia was born Oct. 6, 1925, at Lodge Pole to Eugene and Stella (Rattle Snake) Gunn. She was raised in the Lodge Pole area and attended schools at Lodge Pole and Flandreau, S.D. Sophia attended nursing school at the Research Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., in 1955. She worked in Chicago and Kansas City, and was a motel manager and worked as a nurse in California. She retired in 1975 and returned to Montana in 1985. Sophia married Daniel Healy on April 26, 1987. She enjoyed family cook-outs, barbecuing, riding horses and even rode broncos in her younger years. Sophia loved dogs and was a breeder of the Pomeranian dogs. She was the matriarch of the family. Sophia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Murphy, Joseph and Lee Gunn; and sisters, Dorothy Wing and Louise Healy. Survivors include her husband, Dan Healy of Lodge Pole; daughter, Alice Walker of Havre; stepchildren, Cheryl Kendall of Lodge Pole, Audrey Aimsback of Great Falls, Terryl Matte of Cut Bank and Stewart Healy of Lodge Pole; sister, Shirley Bell of Lodge Pole; numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren; several greatgreat- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
