PETER LEO obituary

HARLEM Peter T. Leo, 87, a Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railway employee and farmer of Harlem died Friday, March 23, 2007, of natural causes at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Chinook with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery located north of Chinook. Peter was born to Sam and Elodie (Landuyt) Leo on Dec. 3, 1919, at Zurich. He attended schools in both Zurich and Harlem. Early in life, he worked on the farming venture with his family. Peter was married on May 10, 1944, to Evelyn Neumiller at Chinook. Coming from a family that was deeply involved in the railroad system, he worked diligently with his dad and brothers. He excelled well for the Great Northern Railway and the BNSF until he retired in 1984. While being so involved with railroading, he also was involved in farming and raising his family. Peter enjoyed playing baseball with the Valley Owl team, which consisted of most of his brothers. He deeply liked boxing, wrestling, hunting and fishing. Peter excelled in gardening and animal husbandry as well. He had a great love for animals and pets. He was very supportive of his family at all times. What he really enjoyed was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially helping him harvest his large gardens. Peter was an avid reader, liked to play cards and pool as well. He also enjoyed country western music. Peter was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Leo; grandson, Scott Leo; brothers, Frank, Ray, Roy, James and Chris; and sister, Leona Woods. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Leo of Harlem; sons Dennis (Valerie) Leo of Shelby and Steve (Sheree) Leo of Havre; daughters, Darlene Azure of Harlem and Connie (Dave) Holmes of Havre; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin (Paulette) Leo and Larry Leo of Harlem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
