EMMA GIBSON obituary

ROCKY BOY Emma Jane Gibson, 86, long-time resident of Rocky Boy died Monday, March 5, 2007, at the Big Sandy Medical Center of natural causes.

Her rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with her funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, also at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church, with Father Pete officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Boy Cemetery. Emma was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Pryor to Samuel and Louise (Caplette) Gardipee. She attended schools at Good Shepherds in Helena. Emma met and married Albert Sutherland Saddler at Rocky Boy. The couple made their home in Rocky Boy, where Emma worked as a cook for CC Camp, Sangrey School and also the Parker School. The couple later divorced. She lived in Helena and later Spokane, Wash. Emma married Ray Gibson and the couple made their home in Spokane. Her husband, Ray, died in 1988. In 1990, she moved back to Rocky Boy to be near her family. Emma enjoyed beading, crafts, quilting, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and playing bingo. She was a very devout church person and member of the Rocky Boy Catholic Church for many years. Emma was a Traditional Native American woman, a great story teller and historian of the Chippewa Cree Tribe. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Sutherland; second husband, Ray Gibson in 1988; two sons; three sisters; two brothers; one granddaughter; and one greatgranddaughter. Survivors include her children, Vonnie Ford of Wellpint, Wash., and Roberta (Greg) Sutherland-Saddler of Rocky Boy; adopted daughter, Emma Saddler of Rocky Boy; son, Sigmund (Carmela) Sutherland of Isleta, N.M .; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
