Dorothy June Leslie, 88, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place and her memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Northern Montana Care Center in the Chapel/Ponderosa Room with Pastor Rowlie Hutton and Ila McClenahan officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later time at the Trinity Episcopalian Church in Janesville, Wis. Dorothy was born April 21, 1918, in Whitting, Ind., to William and Josephine M. (Kasper) Melvin. She was raised and educated in Whiting, graduating from Whiting High School in 1936. After she graduated, Dorothy worked for the telephone company and Amaizo Co. She married Henry Leslie in February of 1947 in Whiting, and the couple made their home in Whiting and raised two daughters. After her daughters were born, Dorothy stayed home to raise them. Her husband, Henry, died in 1964. Dorothy moved to Havre in 1995 with her daughter and son-in-law and moved into the care center in 1998. Dorothy loved to bake and spent many hours in the kitchen cooking for her family. She liked football and was an avid San Fransisco 49ers fan. She enjoyed reading books, especially reading to her grandchildren. She loved all animals, mostly her dogs Buddy, Sandy and Beasley. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She had a beautiful smile and blue eyes that lit up a room when she entered. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gene Field; and infant twin granddaughters. Survivors include her daughters, Dottie (Bob) Rice of Havre and Patricia (Randall) Ekman of Siletz, Ore.; grandchildren: Robby Rice of San Diego, Calif.; Bill Rice of Salt Lake City, Utah; Randy (Tera) Ekman of Pendleton, Ore.; Scott Ekman of Siletz and Marianne (Joel) Culley of Havre; special niece whom Dorothy raised, Linda Bramlett of Madison, Wis.; and two nieces and three nephews whom she loved dearly. Memorial contributions in Dorothy's honor may be made to the Northern Montana Care Center, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
