ALICE PHIPPS obituary

HAVRE/CHINOOK Alice P. Phipps, 84, of Chinook died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at Northern Montana Care Center due to natural causes.

Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be in Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Alice was born March 11, 1922, in Chinook to William and Alice (Budewitz) McLain. She attended St. Jude School and graduated from Havre High School. Alice married Russell Phipps on Dec. 12, 1941, in Seattle. They lived there, and she returned to Chinook when Russell went overseas during World War II. They remained in Chinook until the 1950s, when they started traveling with an amusement business. In the early 1960s, they started their own amusement business. After her husband's death in 1981, Alice continued to operate the business until retiring in 1992. Alice spent the summers in Powell, Wyo., and the winters in Las Vegas, Nev., before moving to Havre in 1997. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, embroidering, playing bridge and bingo, and doing crossword puzzles. Alice loved being with her family, enjoyed country music and helping people. She cared for her husband and son during their illnesses and was very much a caregiver. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Phipps; son, David Phipps in 1997; one brother; and two sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Trena Mahlum of Lancaster, Calif .; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Bernadette Toldness of Havre; and her nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
