GARY HORSE CAPTURE obituary

FORT BELKNAP Gary Leon Horse Capture, “Khe gun” (Warrior), 65, born and raised in Montana, a member of the A'Aninin (Gros Ventre) Indian tribe, died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Albuquerque, N. M., on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007.

A wake will be held at 7 p.m. today and his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church at Fort Belknap with burial following in the Fort Belknap Cemetery. A feed will follow the burial. Gary was born in a car en route to the hospital from Little Chicago on Fort Belknap Indian Reservation on Nov. 9, 1941. He lived in Little Chicago with his grandmother and cousins, attending school in Harlem, and later attended school in Butte while living with his mother. He served in the U.S. Navy, and later attended and taught drafting at an architectural design school in the San Francisco Bay area. After moving to the Southwest, Gary was a journeyman in the local 412 pipe fitters union and taught drafting at a technical college in Crownpoint, N.M. He established his consulting firm, GHC Design Group, and participated in the movies “Into the West,” “Comanche Moon” and a commercial. Gary was always a friendly and happy person who had many friends and loved to travel around Indian Country. He made the Southwest his home for the past 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Ann Horse Capture of New Mexico; sons, Daryl Dean Horse Capture of New Mexico, Marcus Capture of Montana, Gary Capture Jr. Of Oklahoma; daughters, Tamara Interpreter of New Mexico and Debbie Capture Russell of Montana; brother, George Horse Capture of Montana; niece, Daylight Brien of Montana; nephews, Junior Horse Capture of Montana, and Joe Horse Capture and Peter Horse Capture of Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and many relatives. Gary was preceded in death by his mother and father, Carmen Falcon Deane and Joseph Horse Capture; stepfather, Peter Deane; brother, Joseph Rael Horse Capture; and grandfather and grandmother, Paul and Clementine Horse Capture. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
