ESTHER DUMONT obituary

FORT BELKNAP AGENCY Esther Bigby Dumont, 84, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at the Public Health Service Hospital due to natural causes.

Her funeral Mass service will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following in Pony Hill Cemetery. Esther was born Oct. 6, 1921, at Fort Belknap Agency to William and Lillian (No Hand) Bigby. She attended schools at Fort Belknap and Harlem. Esther was the traditional spoon keeper of the Assiniboine Tribe. She made beautiful quilts for family and friends. Esther enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, son Harry “PeeWee” Magpie, daughter Wilma Jean Brown, and grandson Blaine County Deputy Josh Rutherford. Survivors include her sons, Steve Bigby, William Bigby, James Brown and Angel Madera of Harlem, and John Brown and Robert Bigby of Butte; daughters, Maxine Rutherford of Harlem, Catherine Tyon of Hermosa, S.D., Myrna Morrow of Rock Springs, Wyo., Josephine Neary of Butte, and Rita Cole of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
