Donald “Spud” Janicke, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Donald was born July 3, 1926, to Ted and Gladys Janicke in Havre. He graduated from Havre High School in 1944, where he excelled in football, basketball and track. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Vella Gulf during World War II. He attended University of Montana- Northern and transferred to Seattle University on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1951 with a degree in accounting. He married Margaret Mary Hansen in 1950. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret; son, Mark; daughters; Janice and Mary Brown; two grandsons; sister, Carol (Patrick) Kelleher of Helena; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 2: p.m. at Trinity Lutheran, 6215 196th St. S.W. in Lynnwood, Wash.
