MALTA Sheila Mae Simanton, 76, retired owner of the Malta Mercantile, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at Phillips County Hospital of cancer.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Malta Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Malta Cemetery. Sheila was born Aug. 5, 1930, in Malta to Lochiel “Shingles” and Gladys (Tieden) Edwards. She graduated from the Malta High School in 1948 and attended Colorado Women's College. She returned to Malta and worked at the Malta Mercantile. She married Dwayne Simanton on Nov. 15, 1950. She was employed at the telephone office as an operator, the Phillips County News, and Malta High School from 1964 until 1977. She joined the family business, The Malta Mercantile, until retiring in 1993. Sheila devoted much of her time helping family and friends. Whether it was school activities, cooking the best meals for large groups of people and putting others before herself. She was a member of the Malta Lutheran Church and WECLA. She was active in many organizations including, the Mustang Foundation, Girls & Boys Club, Malta Food Bank, TOPS and P. E.O. Sheila also served six years on the Malta School Board. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Craig Dwayne Simanton in 1951. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dwayne Simanton Sr. Of Malta; daughter, Janine (Craig) Stiles of Malta; son, Dwayne (Roxann) Simanton Jr. Of Malta; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine (John) Brooks of San Leandro, Calif., Lydia “Toots” (Tom) Thompson of Helena; brother-in-law, Hubert (Carol) Simanton of Whitewater; sister-in-law, Judi (Simanton) (Dave) Stabler of Portland, Ore. Memorials may be made to the Mustang Foundation, P.O. Box 670, Malta, MT 59538 or donor's choice. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
