Hugh DeWinter Jr., 60, of Havre died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at his home of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place and Hugh's memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. Friday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael O'Hearn officiating. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the V. F.W. Club immediately after the services. Hugh was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Havre to Hugh and Gina (Henstra) DeWinter Sr. He was raised and educated in Big Sandy. In 1966, he entered into the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1967. After his discharge, Hugh returned to Montana. He worked in Helena, Shelby, Townsend, Chouteau and Conrad. He was employed by various newspapers and worked as their graphic designer. Hugh moved to Havre and was employed at the Havre Daily News for 19 years. Later, he went to work for Northern Montana Hospital as a security officer and then worked for Security Armored Express Courier. Hugh married Earlene Erickson on Dec. 31, 2002, in Havre. The couple lived in Havre. Hugh enjoyed reading, camping, fishing and making model cars. He collected miniature motorcycles. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister. Survivors include his wife, Earlene DeWinter of Havre; daughters, Misty (Willy) Perkins of Kenai, Alaska, and Brandy (Charlie) Thielman of Chester; stepdaughter, Dawn Erickson of Havre; stepson, Jeremy Erickson (Breanna Johannesen) of Great Falls; sisters, Bernice Tingley of Huron, S.D., and Carole (Daryle) Tichner of Virginia City; and step-grandsons, Colton Johannesen and Ryker Erickson. Memorial contributions in Hugh's honor may be made to a memorial of one's choice. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
