ADA ANDERSON obituary

CHESTER Ada O. Anderson, 86, of Chester died Saturday evening, Jan. 13, 2007, at the Liberty County Nursing Home.

Cremation is planned with burial of ashes in the Chester Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester, conducted by Pastor Peter Erickson. Ada was born April 23, 1920, at Fort Benton to Leslie and Floy (Maguren) Collar, homesteaders in the Kenilworth community. When she was very young, her family moved to Oregon. Ada received her formal education in Salem, Ore., where she graduated from high school in 1939. She attended college for a year at Monmouth, Ore., then moved to Seattle, Wash. It was there that she met her husbandto- be, George W. Anderson, who was working in the shipyards at Bremerton. Ada and George were married in Seattle on March 27, 1942. The Andersons returned to Montana in 1944 and began farming south of Joplin. Ada enjoyed her life as a farmwife, homemaker and mother of three daughters. In 1956, they built a home in Chester, where the girls attended school. They continued to spend their summer months on the farm. During those early years on the farm, Ada served as the clerk of the Hay Coulee School board. Ada maintained an independent life in her Chester home and the Sweetgrass Lodge until 1998, when she transferred to the Liberty County Nursing Home. Ada and George enjoyed traveling together, especially to Hawaii. After George's death in 1971, she continued to travel with friends. She went on several cruises and became a regular on the bus excursions sponsored by Anderson-Elerding Travel. The trips took her throughout most of the United States. Ada enjoyed sewing, painting, dancing, gardening, playing cards and puzzles. Her favorite treasures were rocks and driftwood. Ada was preceded in death her husband; parents; youngest daughter, Susan Snyder in 2004; brother, Willard Collar; and sister, Edith Marsh. Survivors include her daughters, Beverly (Gary) Jensen and Barbara (Bob) Nordstrom, both of Chester; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Vohland of Salem, Ore. Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
