GLORIA ALMAS obituary

Gloria M. Almas, 88, of Havre died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at her home of natural causes.

Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with Father Robert D. Grosch officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Havre. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the St. Jude Parish Center immediately after the services at the graveside. Gloria was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Frank and Beatrice (Kraus) Math. She moved with her parents to Chicago, Ill., and Evansville Ind., before moving to Havre in 1927. Her father was a meteorologist and worked in Havre. She attended St. Jude School and graduated from Havre High School in 1933. Gloria attended Northern Montana College and Montana State University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She lived and worked in Helena, and later worked for the U. S. Forest Service in Missoula. Gloria married Dr. David J. Almas on March 25, 1940, in Havre. Gloria and David lived in Chinook where their first son, Joe was born. They moved to Havre in 1946, where David was a founding member of the Havre Clinic. They had four more children in Havre. Gloria was active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and the medical auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Gloria and David spent winters in Phoenix for many years after he retired. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David J. Almas in 1992; and son, Joseph Almas in 1967. Survivors include her daughter, Jane (Mark) VanBrussel of Carmichael, Calif .; sons, John (Linda) Almas of Helena, James (Suzanne) Almas of Jackson, Miss., and Jay (Tammie) Almas of Havre; and 10 grandchildren, Josh, Luke, Casey, Emily, Patrick, Beth, Frank, Joe, Brian and Daniel. Memorial contributions in Gloria's honor may be made to the St. Jude's School or to the Montana State University- Northern Foundation. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
