GREAT FALLS Joseph A. Wanago II, 74, of Great Falls, an Air Force veteran and retired insurance agent, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at a Great Falls hospital of natural causes.
A celebration of his life for friends and family will be held today at 2501 Third Ave. S. , beginning at 4 p. m. Joseph was born Aug. 20, 1932, to Joseph Adam and Regina Wanago in Havre, where he was raised, educated and graduated from Havre High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. While in the Air Force, he played basketball, traveling through the U.S. and neighboring countries. After serving in the Air Force, he graduated from Northern Montana College in Havre. He married Joyce Marie Dull on Aug. 3, 1957, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Great Falls. He was an educator and coach for a number of years. He was also an insurance agent for Equitable Life Assurance Society of America and was honored for being the top salesman in the state of Montana on several occasions. Joseph was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed golf, the New York Yankees, the Chicago Bears and the Montana State University Bobcats. In addition to playing basketball in the military and throughout college, he played baseball and coached Little League and American Legion baseball. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Wanago of Great Falls; sons, Joseph (Gayle) Wanago of Great Falls, Jon Wanago and Josh Wanago of Bozeman; and two granddaughters.
