CHINOOK Dorothy (Brown) Grabofsky, 80, of Chinook died at Peace Hospice in Great Falls on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at the Chinook High School auditorium. Dorothy was born Feb. 5, 1926, to B.H. (Harry) and Mary (Brewster) Brown at Forks. She was raised on the family farm near Whitewater and graduated from Whitewater High School. After graduation, she was employed as bookkeeper at Loring Auto. Later she attended Northern Montana College and worked at Malta Auto. On July 7, 1946, she married Henry Grabofsky at his parents' home near Sunnyslope. They farmed and ranched west of Loring. Four children were born to them during these years. In May 1962, they sold the farm and moved their family to Malta and relocated to Chinook in 1964. Dorothy and Henry owned and operated the H & D Meat Market and Yarn Shop for many years. After the business was sold, Dorothy worked various jobs in Chinook. In 2001, they moved to Great Falls for medical reasons. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and crocheting and taught these skills to many others. She also enjoyed woodworking, ceramics, pine needle baskets, bowling, playing cards, dancing and traveling. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include Henry, her husband of 60 years; daughters, Terry Stebar (Lyle Loendorf Sr.) Of Chinook and Karen (Ron) Witte of Helena; sons, Rick (Rita) Grabofsky of Chinook and Dale Grabofsky (Terrie Sonju) of Great Falls; brother, Russell (Janet) Brown of Helena; eight grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jim, Bob, Sam and Clinton Brown; and sister, Frances Owen. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested memorials to Peace Hospice at 1101 26th St. S., Great Falls, MT 59405. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
