LONGVIEW, Wash. Vivian Doris Purdy, 87, of Longview, Wash., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Hospice Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Malta cemetery at the Thomson family plot. Vivian was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Malta to William Gordon and Annie Bella (Gauld) Thomson. She attended schools in Malta and was employed locally when she met C. Lowell Purdy. The Purdys were married Oct. 11, 1940, in Great Falls and settled in Havre, where they farmed a wheat ranch on the Hi- Line until 1970. During those years, Vivian was a homemaker, spending her time raising their three children and participating in community activities. Moving with her husband to Helena, when he became involved in state politics, Vivian volunteered in community services. In 1991 she and her husband moved to Longview. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years in 2002, and her four older brothers. Survivors include her son, James L. Purdy of Cascade; daughter-in-law, Barbara Purdy of Great Falls; daughters, Barb Leak and Judy (Jon) Fountain, both of Longview; and four grandchildren, Sara Purdy, Annie Fountain, Stuart Purdy and Jessica Leak. Memorials may be sent to the Hospice Care Center, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632 or Inter-Mountain Deaconess Home for Children, 500 S. Lamborn, Helena, MT 59601. Arrangements were by Ditlevsen-Moore Chapel on the Hill in Kelso, Wash.
