PAUL ANGSTMAN obituary

SPOKANE, Wash. Paul W. Angstman, former Havre resident and businessman, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at Harborcrest Retirement Estates in Spokane, Wash.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Jude's Catholic Church at 2 p. m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Paul's life in St. Jude's Parish Center after interment at Hill County Cemetery. Paul was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jess L. Angstman Sr. On Nov. 27, 1921, in Harlem. He attended Havre schools and graduated from Havre High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was stationed in New Guinea during World War II with the 98th Signal Battalion. Paul married Margaret “Peggy” L. Winden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Oscar Winden, on July 18, 1943. Paul was discharged from the Army in 1945 and returned to Havre. He began his automobile career with Valley Motor Supply Co., where he worked for several years, spending time in Glasgow and Cody, Wyo., before returning to Havre and establishing Angstman Motors Inc. with his brother Jess L. Angstman Jr. The Chevrolet dealership operated with Jess and Paul at the helm until 1980, when the business was sold. Paul spent most of his life in Havre until 2005 when he moved to Spokane with Peggy to be near their son and daughter. Paul, always the salesman, made many friends during his brief time at the Harborcrest Retirement Estates. He was always quick with a greeting, a smile and a kind word. He was a Havreite through and through. After he moved to Spokane he stated on more than one occasion that he was “a Montana cowboy without a home.” This often garnered a laugh; but he missed being in Havre, where he spent most of his 84 years. During his years in Havre, he belonged to several fraternal organizations, including The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and served as exalted ruler in 1962. Survivors include his wife, Peggy, now living in Spokane, Wash .; sons, Tom (Jan) in Spokane, and Greg (Mary) living in Pennsauken, N.J .; daughters, Lesly of Spokane, and Jeannie (Brian) Farmer of Greenville, N. C .; and special family friend Debbie (Tom) Healy of Havre; 10 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
