JEANETTE STUMP obituary

Jeanette Ann Denny Stump, 69, a.k.a. Ne-mpe-s-tah-w AH Kop, which means Rain Blanket, died of cancer Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Great Falls at Peace Hospice.

Her wake service began at 7 p. m. Sunday at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church. Traditional services will be held at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church with Douglas Standing Rock officiating. The ceremony will include Native American Church members and local singing groups. Her funeral service was to begin at 10 a.m. today. Burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. A journey feast will be held on Wednesday, also at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church. Jeanette was born April 23, 1937, to Sam Denny and Ann Sandy in Rocky Boy. She was an avid beader who loved to gamble, especially at Bear Paw Casino in Rocky Boy. She loved tanning hides, quilting, drying meat and picking berries. She lived a traditional life and spoke her Cree language and tried to instill this in her daughter, Annette, and her grandchildren. She lived in Great Falls for many years with her late husband, Donald Stump. She spent her remaining years in Rocky Boy to be near her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. She enjoyed attending their school concerts, Little League games and teacher conferences. She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Ann Denny; sister, Mamie Denny Stump; and brothers Louie Denny and Richard Denny. Survivors include her daughter, Annette (Wesley St. Marks) Stump of Rocky Boy; stepson, Donovan Stump and family of Rocky Boy; grandchildren, Heather, Robert III and Chantz Rose Bradford; sister, Helen Bacon of Rocky Boy; brother, Victor Denny of Rocky Boy; nephew, Robert Stump; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
