CHESTER Herbert “Herb” Fenger, 88, a longtime Lothairarea farmer, died of natural causes Thursday morning, July 27, 2006, at the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester.
His funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Burial will follow at the Chester Cemetery. Herb was born on Jan. 29, 1918. He grew up and received his education in north-central Montana. He married Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Benjamin in 1941. They farmed north of Lothair until 1979, when they retired and purchased a home near Polson. They also spent their winter months in Mesa, Ariz. In 2000, the Fengers returned to the Hi- Line to live at Chester. After 62 years of marriage, Betty died of cancer in 2003. The following year Herb moved to the Chester nursing home, where he lived from that time on. During his retirement years, Herb enjoyed making beautiful jewelry from agates and other precious stones. He also loved to spend time with his family and friends. Herb's survivors include his sons, Joel (Ruth) Fenger of Chester and Gerald “Jerry” Fenger of Galata; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
