PANORAMA CITY, Wash. Mozella “Modie” Madison, 88, died Friday, June 30, 2006, in Panorama City

A memorial celebration of her life will be held Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. at The United Churches of Olympia, 110 11th Ave. S. W. in Olympia, Wash. Modie was born Oct. 5, 1917, on a homestead near Wolf Point to Blenda Peterson Clarke and Lyle E. Clarke. The family moved to Portland, Ore., for five years, then moved to Havre in 1928. She graduated from Havre High School and Northern Montana College. Modie taught at a rural school for one year before marrying Allen Madison. They were teachers on the Blackfeet and Sioux Indian reservations until 1942, when they planned to resign from teaching and return to college. The attack on Pearl Harbor changed their plans. They moved to Kirkland, Wash., where her husband worked at the Lake Washington shipyards during World War II. When the war ended, they moved to Olympia and then to Tumwater, Wash., in 1950. Modie worked for the Washington State Patrol, then the Tumwater School District. She was the first secretary for Peter G. Schmidt School and Tumwater High School. She retired in 1978. She was a member of The United Churches, Isaac Stevens Orthopedic Guild, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Capital Woodcarvers and several bridge groups. She and Allen moved to Panorama City in 2005. Modie was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed gathering her large extended family together on special occasions. Survivors include her husband, Allen in Panorama City; sons, Hal, Len and Jim and their families; sister, Vivian Nalivka of Havre; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
