CENTER POINT, Texas Helen M. Murphy, 77, of Center Point, Texas, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, after a four-year battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 5515 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas, with Pastor Jon Salminen officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Havre. Helen was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Havre to Carl and Elizabeth Hoppe. She graduated from Havre High School and went on to nursing school where she received her licensed practical nurse's degree. Helen married Phillip Murphy on Jan. 16, 1949, and then moved to Oregon, where she continued her nursing career. She and her family returned to Montana and lived many years in Corvallis, where she was active as a 4-H leader for 16 years. After the death of her husband and son, she moved to Pearland, Texas, where she lived with her daughter and family. She was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church and was active in Christian Helping Hands and Meals on Wheels. She moved to Center Point in 1997.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip S. Murphy; son, Phillip S. Murphy II; grandson, Dennis Oster; and brothers, William and Robert Hoppe. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia (Doug) Blair of Hamilton and Phyliss Oster of Center Point, Texas; three grandsons; granddaughter, Jessica Oster Todd; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Marilyn) Hoppe and Walter Hoppe; sister-in-law, Erma Hoppe; brother-in-law, Glenn (Pat) Murphy; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Fanconi Anemia Research Inc., Hospice of Kerrville, Texas, Christian Helping Hands, Pearland, Texas, or charity of one's choice.
