Jessie P. Ray, 86, of Chinook died Monday June 19, 2006, at her residence in Chinook due to natural causes. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery at Havre. Jessie was born Aug. 4, 1919, in Warrick to Max and Irene (Scofield) Schmid. She was raised on the family ranch in the Bears Paw Mountains. Jessie attended schools in Warrick. She married Lloyd Scofield in 1936 and married Leonard Ray in 1956. Jessie cooked in restaurants and owned and operated Irene's Caf in Dodson and later known as the War Bonnet Caf. Later she did all the baked items at the Iron Horse Caf in Havre until retiring in 1993 and moving to Chinook. Baking and crocheting were her life, and she loved African Violet flowers. Jessie was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd Scofield and Leonard Ray; two brothers; and one sister. Survivors include her sons, Robert Scofield of Havre and Ronald Ray of Warrick; daughter, Pearl Sparks of South Carolina; sister, Kathryn Sievers of Boulder; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchild. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
