SPOKANE, Wash. Former
Havre resident Thomas H.
Brown, 87, died Monday, June 19,
2006, in Spokane of natural causes. A funeral
service and burial will be held
Friday in Davenport, Wash., at
Strate Funeral Home. Tom was
born July 18, 1918, in Zurich to
Esther and Howard T. Brown.
The family moved to Havre in
1927, where his father was manager
of Clacks Hardware for 30
years before starting his own
hardware business, Brown's Hardware.
Tom was educated in Havre
schools and joined the Navy in
1938. He served eight years and
was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Geraldine Wright
in Oakland, Calif., in 1940.
Tom moved to Seattle and
was employed by Regalia Auto
Parts for 31 years. He retired in
1978 for health reasons. He and
his wife, Irene Maskenthine,
retired to Davenport. She died in November 1985.
Tom was a member of the
Eagles, Elks, VFW and
American Legion. He was an
avid golfer and had the distinction
of achieving a hole-in-one trophy.
He married Berneice Mead on June 27, 1987.
Tom was preceded in death
by his parents, Howard T. and
Esther Brown; sisters, Betty
Jones and Patty Troy.
Survivors include his wife,
Berneice; son, Thomas Brown
Jr.; daughters, Sharyn and Char
Hutsel; sons, Don and Tom
Hutsel; three grandchildren; sister,
Myrtice Ratto of Albany,
Ore.; brother, Bob Brown of
Missoula; and numerous nieces
and nephews whom he entertained
with his quick wit and
numerous tales.
