Ruth Matilda (Thompson)
Brandon, 92, of Havre died of
natural causes Wednesday, June
14, 2006, at Northern Montana
Care Center in Havre.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1914,
in Basalt,
Idaho. At
the age of 9,
she moved
to Zurich
with her
family,
where they
raised sugar
beets for the
U&I Sugar
Factory.
She attended
elementary
school
at the North Fork School, the
East Chinook School, and high
school in Harlem.
In 1934, she married Ray
Brandon, the love of her life.
Together they raised four sons.
They moved to Havre in 1957. He
preceded her in death in 1982.
As a young mother in
Chinook, she was active in the
LDS Church, working in various
positions in Relief Society and
Primary. She served as a Cub
Scout den mother for several
years.
She was a lady of many talents,
knitting, crocheting and
embroidering beautiful things to
share with family and friends.
Along with her sister Virginia,
she baked and decorated many
beautiful cakes for weddings and
special events of friends and
family. She was good at fixing
and cutting hair, improving on
the looks of anyone who came to
seek her skillful hands.
She loved the outdoors, and
especially enjoyed spending time
at the family cabin at Beaver
Creek. She loved the great
Montana sky, always finding
shapes in the clouds. She loved
to watch things grow and always
had a garden.
She was proceeded in death
by her parents, Josephine and
Neils Christian Thompson; husband,
Ray Brandon; son,
Ronald; sisters, Lillian Phipps,
Amy Thompson and Marilyn
Bartow; and brothers, Leif,
Norman, Grant, and Levi.
Survivors include her sons,
Jack, Robert and Michael
Brandon, all of Havre; 14 grandchildren;
and sisters, Virginia
Ettien and Betty Bauer of
Havre.
A funeral service will be held
at the LDS Church in Chinook at
2 p.m. Monday. A graveside service
will be held at the Kuper
Memorial Cemetery after the
funeral services.
Edwards Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
