Gene was born in Killarney,
Manitoba, on April 26, 1929, to
Harold and Hazel (Bell) Coder.
As a young man, he went to
North Dakota, where he met the
love of his life, Marian Phelps.
He was drafted into the Army in
1952 and served in communications
in the Korean conflict.
During his first furlough, on
Sept. 20, 1952, he married
Marian. After his discharge,
they moved to Havre and made
their home here for the remainder
of his life. He was a master
electrician and worked on various
construction and irrigation
jobs. He retired from Burlington
Northern Railway 15 years ago.
Gene made many friends and
was well-loved in the community.
His strong faith in the Lord
was a great influence on his children
and grandchildren. He was
a loving and giving person whom
was the first one to help others.
He had a great sense of humor
and a very positive attitude; his
glass was always half full.
His greatest joy in life was
the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting,
trapping and fishing with
his grandchildren. He also
taught them all to play cribbage,
his favorite pastime, especially
during the later years of his life.
He was a member of Fifth
Avenue Christian Church for 50
years. He was very instrumental
in helping start the Little
Rockies Christian Camp in
Landusky, doing a lot of the
wiring with his good friend Max
Russell.
Gene is survived by his wife
Marian Coder of Havre; children,
Cindy (Jon) Rand of
Grand Junction, Colo.; Tim
(Karla) Coder of Helena and
Twyla (Kenny) Klundt of
Columbia Falls; 12 grandchildren;
and one brother and two
sisters residing in Canada.
Memorials are suggested to
the Little Rockies Christian
Camp, Fifth Avenue Christian
Church or the charity of the
donor's choice.
Arrangements are by
Edwards Funeral Home of
Chinook.
