STANLEY JOY obituary

Stanley H. Joy, 54, a Havre Burlington-Northern Railway locomotive supervisor of Havre died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Benefis Health Care in Great Falls due to complications following heart surgery.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in Van Orsdel Methodist Church in Havre.

Stanley was born on Aug. 14, 1951, in Kalispell to Harold and Natalie (Kienas) Joy. He attended schools at Somers Elementary, and graduated from Flathead County High School. Stan worked for Great Northern Railway at the tie plant in Somers during the summers starting in 1970. Later, he worked at the Havre diesel shop as a machinist after graduating from Northern Montana College in 1973, and eventually became locomotive supervisor, a position he still maintained.

Stanley was a member of the Van Orsdel Methodist Church, Havre Masonic Lodge, North Central Montana Shrine Club and Havre Eagles Aerie. He enjoyed following his son and daughter throughout all the activities in various sporting events. Stan was an avid Oakland Raider football fan and was much support for son Ryan in coaching football. He was self-taught in using the computer and enjoyed telling stories and jokes with a great sense of humor. Stan was a devoted family man, enjoyed golfing with his wife, Debby, and was a very caring husband, loving father and a true friend.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Joy of Havre; son, Ryan Joy of Havre; daughter, Erin Joy of Pocatello, Idaho; sister, Ramona Mahoney of Polson; mother-in-law, Donna Richard of Havre; and a host of friends.

Stanley was preceded in death by his father, Harold Joy, in October of 1986; mother, Natalie Joy, in March of 2005; and father-in-law, Gerald Richard, in October of 1999.

Memorials can be sent to the Shriners' Hospital in Spokane, Wash., or Intermountain Children's Home in Helena.
