FRANCES WHITISH obituary

MALTA - Frances Evonne Whitish, 70, a Malta homemaker, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Malta Cemetery. There will be viewing on Tuesday at the Adams Funeral Home from 9 until 10:30 a.m.

Survivors include her sisters, Joyce Sedivy of Swan Lake, Darla Cook of Piedmont, S.D., Merla Warden of Ulm and Bonnie Fraser of Chester; brother, Lonnie Cady of Inverness; and many nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Duaine, in 1989; father in 1962; mother in 1995; and brother, Lloyd, in 2002.

Frances was born June 2, 1935, in Havre to Elmer (Swede) and Esther (McGrath) Cady. She was the second of seven children and lived in Minneota area north of Inverness on a farm. In 1940, at the age of 5, she contracted polio and sleeping sickness. She was in the hospital in Spokane, Wash., and spent some time in therapy in Great Falls. She was paralyzed on her right side. She attended school in Minneota and Inverness, upon moving to that community in 1948. She lived on the McGrath homestead until 1962, when her father died. Frances and her siblings moved to town, where they lived with their mother, until she moved to Chester in 1971. In January 1976, Frances moved to Malta and attended the Malta Opportunity Center for many years.

She married Duane Whitish on June 10, 1977, in Malta. They continued to attend the Malta Opportunity Center and Workshop until he died in 1989. She was a very friendly lady with a wonderful laugh when she chose to use it. She loved babies and animals. She loved to get gifts, mainly for the opening of them. Frances was a great collector of pictures. She had a dog named Blackie and a dog named Abbey, both of whom were very caring toward Frances. She painted stain glass and often gave away her paintings to people who had touched her life in some way. But she always said her favorite hobby was smoking. She got to spend time at her house with the help of M.O.I. and P.A.L.S. Special friend Janet Fenger of P.A.L.S. had her keep in touch with family and friends for birthdays and holidays. She did many extra things for Frances. The people from M.O.I. were also very important in her life. Phyillis spent many years with Frances and has many stories to tell about her.

Memorials can be made to the charity of choice.
