IDA LANGDON obituary

BOZEMAN - Ida Barbknecht Langdon, 101,

Graveside services will be held at the Ennis Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Friday for family and friends, with a reception to follow at the Jeffers Episcopal Church.

Ida Barbknecht Langdon was born Nov. 17, 1904, to Julius and Anne Weber Barbknecht at the Barbknecht homestead, located in the extreme southeastern corner of North Dakota. She remained on the farm until 1934.

She married Norman D. Langdon at Fergus Falls, Minn., in 1937. Their only daughter and child, Katherine, was born at Fergus Falls in 1938. The family moved to Havre in 1942, where Norm worked as a brakeman and conductor for the Great Northern Railway until his retirement in 1972. Following retirement, they moved to Logan, Utah, to be near their daughter and her family. After Norm's death in 1992, she continued to live in their home in Logan until moving back to Montana in 1999.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine (Bob) Gunderson, of

Bozeman; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

She was remarkably fit, both mentally and physically, until her death. She maintained a beautiful yard and large vegetable garden by herself in Logan, until moving back to Montana when she was 95. She made her home in Bozeman with her daughter and son-in-law and could always be counted on to help dig potatoes in the fall. In addition to rarely missing a bingo game at the Logan Senior Citizens Center, she loved to travel around with the harmonica band and dance with the residents of the Cache Valley, Utah, retirement and nursing homes. After moving to Bozeman, she made many new and good friends at the Tuesday and Thursday senior citizen bingo games and while playing pinochle on Mondays at the Catholic Resurrection Parish.

A few weeks ago, she was asked her secret for a long and healthy life. She immediately answered, “hard work and lots of dancing.”

Should friends desire, donations in memory of Ida can be given to Bozeman Deaconess Hospice, c/o Bozeman Deaconess Foundation, 931 Highland Boulevard., Suite 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service of Bozeman.
