FRANCES JONES obituary

Frances Lucille “Peggy” Jones, 89, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at her home of natural causes.

Her celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Pastor Tim Maroney Officiating. After the service there will be a time for sharing memories and food and the Elks Club in Havre. Anyone wishing to attend the Interment of ashes, the memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Cemetery.

Peggy was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Lewistown to Thomas and Verne (Cook) Baker. She was raised and educated in Lewistown and graduated from Fergus High School in 1935. After high school, Peggy worked for her father at the grocery store.

She met Roy Jones at a dance, and having a mutual love for music, they hit it off. They were married June 10, 1939, in Lewistown. The couple made their home in Havre, where Roy and his brother Harry Jones purchased The Electrical Service Company. During World War II, they closed the business and Roy went to Portland, Ore., to work in the shipyards. In 1945 after the war, they returned to Havre.

Roy and Peggy opened Havre Electric with Ralph Hokins and Tom Baker Jr. Peggy worked as the bookkeeper for the business and was also a very good hand when it came to wiring toasters and lamps. Roy died in 1979. Peggy sold the business and retired in 1980.

Peggy was a very active person who enjoyed many activities, including golf. She got a hole in one and had the trophy to prove it. She also enjoyed playing cards, including pinochle and bridge. She loved to dance and enjoyed doing her ceramics, sewing and knitting. She was an active member of the Elks and was also a member of the Altar Society. She spent winters in Tuscon, Ariz., with her sisters Barbie and Jeanne for many years, until her health prevented her from traveling.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Jones, in 1979; sister, Jeanne Wojtowick; and brother, Thomas W. Baker Jr.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Diane (Pat) Lamphier of Havre; son, Charles T. Jones of Havre; sisters, Barbara Hopkins of Spokane, Wash., and Helen (Renny) Breda of New Castle, Colo .; grandchildren, Joe (Lena) Lamphier of Havre, Greg (Gerri) Lamphier of Helena, Mark (Charity) Lamphier of Helena, Jim (Deanna) Lamphier of Frenchtown and Nathan Jones of Brandon, Fla .; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the Havre High School Marching Band Uniform Fund.

Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
