FREDRICK NIMMICK obituary

Fredrick G. “Fred” Nimmick, 90, of Great Falls died on Monday, April 10, 2006, at his home due to natural causes.

Visitation will be at Schnider Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. His funeral service will be at Peace Lutheran Church on Friday at 10 a.m., with Pastor Kent Stenzel officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Big Sandy Cemetery on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Fredrick Gust Nimmick was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Fingel, N.D., to Reihold and Anna (Schook) Nimmick. He was raised on a farm outside of Tower City, N.D., and graduated from eighth grade at Cass County Schools.

Fred joined the Army on April 16, 1941, and served as a master sergeant in Headquarter Co. No. 703 Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East during World War II. He was honorably discharged Aug. 7, 1945. Fred was awarded various medals, including good conduct.

He married Esther Dalager in Detroit Lakes, Minn., on Oct. 18, 1941. The couple came to Montana in 1945. They lived in Belgrade for one year and then moved to Great Falls. While in Great Falls, they owned and operated a service station and he worked as a welder and mechanic. They moved to Big Sandy in 1954, where they farmed and ranched. Esther died of cancer April 16, 1967. He then married Ann Bahnmiller in Seattle, Wash., on March 23, 1968. They stayed on the farm until 1971, when they moved to Clinton to operate a campground and trailer court. In 1975, they moved to Corvallis, where Fred was involved in real estate development and farming in the Bitterroot Valley. The couple moved to Great Falls when Fred retired in 2000.

Fred was an active member of the Lutheran Church all of his life. He loved his Lord, his family and his country.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; son, Darin in 1975; parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Nimmick of Great Falls; sons, Roger (Anna) Nimmick of Alberton, Brad (Peg) Nimmick of Great Falls, Gary (Pam) Nimmick of Havre and Garland (Deedie) Nimmick of Box Elder; brother, Arnie (Joyce) Nimmick of Three Forks; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
