ELIZABETH SCHLIEVE obituary

MALTA - Elizabeth Ann Murdock Schlieve, 70, of Malta, a former elementary teacher, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta. Interment of the ashes will be in the Malta Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.

Betty was born in Malta on Sept. 2, 1935, to Robert and Jean Murdock of Whitewater. She was a graduate of Whitewater High School and Northern Montana College.

Betty married Robert Schlieve in 1955. They lived in Havre, where Betty was an elementary teacher at Devlin and Highland Park schools. On Jan. 19, 1972, Bob and Betty adopted two young children, Jeff and Theresa. Bob and Betty later divorced.

She spent 13 years at Hi-Line Retirement Center and was a member of Van Orsdel United Methodist Church in Havre. She had a spontaneous dry sense of humor that she shared with anyone. Halloween was her favorite holiday. She adored her three grandsons. She never got to see her granddaughter, Kristen. Multiple sclerosis slowly took over her mobility.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jean Murdock; sister, Helen “Nel” Hetrick Swanson; and brother, Gordon Murdock.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Wayne Schlieve; daughter, Theresa Jean Gutierrez; grandsons, Brandon, Brian, and Brent; granddaughter, Kristen Schlieve; sister, Janet Berg of Malta; one nephew; and two nieces.

Adams Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
