HERMAN OHLAND obituary

MOSES LAKE, Wash. - Herman “Hermie” William Ohland, 91, longtime Moses Lake resident and former resident of Havre and Ritzville, Wash., died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Samaritan Hospital.

A private family service will be held at Kayser's Chapel of Memories in Washington.

Hermie was born May 11, 1914, in Great Falls to Grace and Henry Ohland.

Hermie graduated from Havre High School in 1932 and married his high school sweetheart, Martha Yates, in 1935. They then moved to Walla Walla, Wash. In 1941, they relocated to Ritzville, Wash., and settled in Moses Lake in 1953.

Hermie and Martha opened The Town Shop in 1959. They owned and operated a woman's boutique until 1974.

He was a loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather and great-grandfather, a charter member of Moses Lake Golf and Country Club, former active member of the Moses Lake Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and a Shriner with the El Katif Temple.

Hermie was well-known around town for his friendliness, willingness to help out in anyway he could and his genuine friendship to a great majority of Moses Lake folks. He was a true jack-of-all-trades.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; brother Robert Ohland; sister, Henrietta Swant; and grandson, Scott Owen.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet (Dean) Owen; son, Bill (Sherry); sister, Virginia Horst; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of one's choice.
