HINGHAM/HAVRE - Joyce M. Garner Lipp, 86, of Havre died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Moody officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
Joyce was born March 29, 1919, to Charles and Gertrude (Lankford) Garner. She attended grade school and high school in Brady and entered nurses training at Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Havre in 1939. She graduated as a registered nurse in May of 1942. While at nurses training, she met William M. Lipp. They married in Hingham on Jan. 21, 1943.
During their years in Hingham, Joyce cooked and cared for her family and the various hired men who helped on the farm. William died on Oct. 12, 1992. The following spring, Joyce moved to Havre and lived in the apartment building that formerly housed Sacred Heart Hospital, where she attended nursing school. In later years, Joyce developed macular degeneration. She was an avid reader up to this point. Joyce loved cooking, shopping and animals. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always sent a card that was specially chosen for their individual special days, to express her true feelings about them.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Sr. in 1992; son, William A. Lipp; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Gary) Hansen of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; sons, Eldon “Ed” Lipp and Raymond (Joanie) Lipp, all of Hingham; sister, Pearl Kauk of Conrad; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Engebretson of Havre; very dear friend, Harriet Brown; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Joyce's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
