GRANVILLE STUART SKILLMAN obituary

Granville Stuart Skillman, 87, died at his home in Havre of natural causes with his family by his side.

Crema-tion has taken place. His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Havre at Fifth Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. John Skillman officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service.

Granville was born April 23, 1918, at a ranch home in Livingston to Stephen P. and Almeda I. (Bruffey) Skillman. He was raised and educated in the Livingston area. At age 14 Granville left school to work in the family sawmill, where he continued to work until 1945.

On June 15, 1944, Granville married June Burgvall in Havre. The couple made their home on the Skillman Ranch outside of Livingston on Misson Creek. He and June raised registered shorthorn cattle until they sold the ranch in 1960 and purchased his brother's place. They continued to ranch and started a guide business. Granville was known by many to be the local trapper in Livingston and the surrounding area.

They moved to Havre in 1999 to be closer to family and lived on June's mother's ranch south of Havre. Granville loved to be outside and enjoyed nature. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and being with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, and a daughter, Marguerite Cain.

Granville is survived by his wife of 61 years, June Skillman of Havre; a son, Stuart (Cheryl) Skillman of Mount Vernon, Wash.; two daughters, Janice Skillman and Rose (Matt) Kretchmer, all of Havre; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Granville's honor may be made to the Havre Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited. Services and arrangements are by Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
