Mabel Helen Callaghan, 88, of Havre died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Her graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery in Havre. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
Mabel was born May 1, 1917, in Malta to William H. and Martha (Griesback) Marquardt. She grew up on a ranch north of Loring until her family moved to Malta in 1934. She attended schools in Malta and graduated from Malta High School. She was baptized and confirmed at Malta Lutheran Church.
She married Forrest Ross Callaghan on Nov. 17, 1935, in Chinook. The couple made their home in Havre. Forrest died in 1963 and Mabel moved to Big Sandy, where she worked as a bartender. She moved back to Havre 11 years ago when she retired, and lived in the Eagles Manor.
Mabel was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Havre and a past member of the Eagles and VFW.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest Callaghan in 1963; son, Lee Gary Callaghan; brother, William Marquardt; and sisters, Grace Simser and Irma Jacobson.
Survivors include two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Callaghan of Sunburst.
Memorials in Mabel's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
