ROBERT RASMUSSEN obituary

HARLEM - Robert “Bob” Rasmussen, 81, longtime Blaine County farmer, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at Sweet Memorial Nursing Home after a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Harlem High School gymnasium with a reception at the Harlem VFW Meeting Room. Cremation has taken place by arrangements of Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

Bob was born Feb. 28, 1924, at the family homestead south west of Harlem to Arthur and Peg (Lux) Rasmussen. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1942. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy. After the war, he returned home and attended Montana State University in Bozeman.

In 1950, he married Eileen Runyan of Chinook. In 1952, Eileen and Bob began farming south of Harlem, where they raised two children, Rod and Rita.

During his life, Bob was a member of numerous local organizations. He was a charter member of VFW Post 4744, Masonic Lodge No. 108, Royal Arch of Havre, Harlem Lions Club, Chinook Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 689, American Legion Post No. 59 of Hogeland, Montana Grain Growers Association and the Montana Seed Show beginning in 1957. Bob was also a member of the Presbyterian Church of Harlem, where he served as a trustee.

One of Bob's greatest joys in life was visiting with people and telling stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rod; and stepsister, Cora Benson.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen, of Harlem; daughter, Rita (Kevin) Campbell of Chinook; granddaughter, Amber D'Hooge of Missoula; brother, Don Rasmussen of Harlem; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be sent to the Presbyterian Church of Harlem or an organization of a person's choice.
