MARGARET LAKE obituary

Margaret A. Lake, 76, of Havre died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with her funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Holland & Bonine Chapel with the Rev. Brad Ulgenes officiating. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Vets Club immediately after the services at the graveside.

Margaret was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Malta to Peter and Naomi Johannesen. She was raised on a farm 46 miles north of Malta and 10 miles south of Canada near Loring. Margaret attended school in Loring until her sophomore year when her school closed. She then attended Dodson School, graduating from high school on May 20, 1948. Margaret worked in Malta for two years at the Malta Caf.

On Aug. 18, 1948, she married Orville T. Lake and the couple moved to Havre Sept. 1, 1949, where they made their home. On Sept. 10, 1952, Margaret went to work for the Great Northern Railway as a clerk. She was the first woman to go out and check rail cars to make sure they were in their numbered order. Margaret had a good relationship with her co-workers and many of them have remained friends.

Margaret enjoyed western music and dancing. She often went to listen to the music when she was no longer able to dance. She enjoyed watching others dance and visiting with people. Margaret also enjoyed gardening and sewing in her spare time. She was a member of the Eagles and the VFW Auxiliary.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville Lake; sons, Larry and Leslie Lake; and sister, Mildred Tuma.

Survivors include her brothers, Willie Johannesen of Havre and Iver Johannesen of Loring; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Margaret's honor may be made to a charity of your choice.
