LOUIS TURNTOES obituary

HAYS - Louis Melvin “Cheetah” Turntoes, 75, of Hays died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Northern Montana Care Center due to natural causes.

A funeral Mass was scheduled for 11 a.m. today in St. Paul's Recreation Center with burial following with military honors in Mission Cemetery. A wake and rosary began Sunday evening in the Mission Recreation Center.

Louis was born July 23, 1930, to Louis and Matilda (Turcotte) Turntoes in Lodge Pole. He was raised in the Hays area and attended Mission and Hays schools. He enjoyed playing basketball and running track. Louis served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean conflict.

He married Bernice Anita Smoker and they later divorced. Louis worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Road Department, Law Enforcement Department and Forestry. Louis was involved with rodeos, enjoyed being outdoors in the Little Rocky Mountains, made signs for different ranchers and made crafts from rope.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; son, Louis Turntoes Jr .; brother, Franklin Wayne Turntoes; and sister, Doreen Shayen.

Survivors include his sons, Rodney (Ronna) Turntoes of Rocky Boy and Frank (Roxanne) Turntoes of Frazer; brother, Waverly Turntoes of Renton, Wash .; half-brother, Tommy Cochran of Fort Belknap; sisters, Sylvia Heppner of Landusky and Naomi Hinkle of Great Falls; half-sister, Darlene Hockings of Kalama, Wash .; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
