VINCENT SEDIVY obituary

Vincent Thomas Sedivy Jr., 72, died in Whitefish on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon at the Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hingham Cemetery.

Vincent was born March 22, 1933, in Havre. He was the elder of two sons born to Vincent

T. Sedivy Sr. and Mildred Fern (Alex) Sedivy. Vincent was raised and educated at Hingham and graduated from Hingham High School in 1951.

That year, he married his high school sweetheart, Audrey

Marilyn Michaelson. Together, they farmed north of Hingham

and raised a family of five daughters.

Vincent eventually sold his

farming interests and moved to Lincoln, where he owned and

operated a logging business. In the years that followed, Vincent

moved his family several times. He worked on construction

projects at the Libby Dam and on U.S. Highway 2. After the family settled at Columbia Falls, he drove logging trucks in the area for several years. Vincent and Audrey were divorced in 1966.

Vincent moved to Seattle, where he joined Operating

Engineers Union Local 302 and continued to work as a heavy-

equipment operator. While there he married his second wife,

Francis Knott. This marriage also ended in divorce.

Vincent traveled to Alaska and continued to work in the

construction business. He met another lady friend, May Scott,

who became his partner and companion from that time on.

In 1989 they left Alaska and settled at Trego. May died on Aug. 28, 1991.

Vincent remained in Trego during his retirement years. He

had been a heavy smoker during his life, and he suffered from

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. His health deteriorated

rapidly this past year. Two months ago, he transferred to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Whitefish for extended care.

Vincent was a hard worker his entire life. He loved the

wilderness of Montana and Alaska, where he experienced many hunting, camping and fishing adventures. In his quiet time at home, he enjoyed the “good old Western movies” on television.

Vincent was preceded in death by his father in 1957 and his mother in 2004.

He is survived by: five daughters, Peggy Nielsen (Brian) of Trego, Marie Lewis of Kalispell, Jean Miller (Robert) of Libby, Gwen Newman (Larry) of Everett, Wash., and Jill Joy (Colin) of Whitefish; 14 grandchildren; and a brother, James Sedivy (Joyce) of Swan Lake.
