Helen (Schach) Mickelson, 82, of Havre died Thursday, Sept. 29,
2005, at her home with her daughter Cathy at her bedside.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in First Lutheran Church. Cremation has taken
place. A potluck dinner will follow at the Shanty Bar.
Helen was born Nov. 1, 1926, to Theodore and Meta (Rhode) Schach in Fargo, N.D., and was raised in Perth, N.D. After graduation from high school in Perth, Helen went to work for Western Union Telegraphy and worked in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Antonio, Texas.
Several years later she returned to North Dakota and met and married Paul Mickelson. They were married on Sept. 29, 1948, in Perth and farmed for a few years. They moved to Havre, where Paul worked for Great Northern Railway. Helen worked several different jobs until she went to work for Havre Day Activity Center. She worked there for 26 years and had to retire on July 26 due to failing health.
Helen enjoyed camping, fishing and driving to the mountains to watch the changing of the seasons. She also liked working with flowers and her favorite bird was the humming bird. She loved spending time with her family, friends, her cat Miss Callie, and Mel's dog Doc.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul; daughter. Carol (Mickelson) Davey; and son. Mel.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy (John) Perrier of Bartleville, Okla.; son-in-law, Mike Davey of Havre; sister, Ruth Bernstein of Davenport, N.D.; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; one niece; two nephews; and special friends, Cheryl Hofland, Janet and Keith Nordrum, Darryl and Kerri Shay, and Richard Schmockel, all of Havre.
Memorials may be sent to one's choice.
