SALOME BORSCH obituary

Salome "Sally" Borsch, 92, of Havre died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.

Rosary and vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Chinook. A funeral Mass and burial will follow later in the week at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church and cemetery in Waterloo, Ill.

Sally was born in Salem, Ill., on Nov. 9, 1912, to Thaddeo and Elizabeth (Yanones) Buchunas. She was raised in East St. Louis, Ill., and graduated from high school there.

She married Ralph Geissert in September 1934 and gave birth to her only daughter, Rita. They later divorced.

Sally met and married the love of her life, Harold Borsch, on Jan. 21, 1950. A successful attorney and civic leader, Harold tended to his law practice while they jointly entered the tavern business. They owned three successful taverns in their working lives. Harold died on Jan. 11, 1964, from a long battle with cancer. Sally continued operating the last of the three taverns until March of 1978, when she retired. She moved to Harlem to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Edward Dugan. Though retired, she enjoyed helping Rita and Ed in the day-to-day operation of Dugan's Lock and Key. Rita died in January 2000.

Sally moved to the Little Rockies Retirement Center in Harlem until ill health forced her move to the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre in 2001.

In addition to working hard, Sally loved playing Scrabble, styling her own hair, attending Bible studies, doing crossword puzzles, reading cook books and drawing.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Ed Dugan of Waterloo, Ill.; granddaughters, Ramona Vogt of Waterloo, Ill., and Cynthia (Bill) Ragsdale of Quapaw, Okla.; grandsons, Pat (Laura) Dugan of Harlem, Brian (Sherri) Dugan of Missoula and George (Penni) Dugan of Harlem; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
