CAROLE NORMAN obituary

Carole Lucille Norman, 77, longtime resident of Havre, died Monday Aug. 29, 2005, at her home of natural causes.

A memorial celebration will be held at noon Saturday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles immediately after the services at the graveside.

Carole was born Aug. 12, 1928, to Lloyd and Viola (Heiman) Wilber in Lewistown. She was one of five children and was later joined by 14 half-brothers and half-sisters. Carole was raised and educated in Buffalo, graduating from Buffalo High School in 1946. On Aug. 23, 1947, Carole married Jack Norman in Conrad. They spent their first married years in Lewistown, where their five children were born. They moved to Havre in 1954 to raise their five children and open Norman's Ranch and Sportswear. Jack and Carole together with their son David established the Rushmore Waterslide Park in Rapid City, S.D., which they owned and operated from 1984 to 1999.

Carole was active in the Havre Chapter No. 30 Order of the Eastern Star and served as worthy matron. She was also a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary. She was active in her children's activities and served on the PTA, as a Scout den mother, Brownie troop leader and Job's Daughters. She supported her children and grandchildren in all their music and sports activities. She was their biggest fan. She was an excellent bookkeeper and her attention to detail was unsurpassed. She loved working crossword puzzles and she crocheted many Afghans for her children and grandchildren.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Butch Wilber; son, David Norman in 1992; and granddaughter, Jolyn Young, also in 1992.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jack Norman of Havre; daughters, Kaye (Scott) Young of Havre and Cindy (Scott) Schmid of Portland, Ore.; sons, Tom (Susie) Norman of Lewistown and Doug (Kim) Norman of Cut Bank; sisters, Eileen (Bob) Lonnevik of Conrad, Jean (Don) Waldron of Kalispell, JoAnn (Garry) Kindred of Billings, Toots Riddle of Missoula, Leona King of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jane (Myron) Gregory of Lewistown, Margaret (Dean) Larson of Bozeman, Violet (Ralph) McElvain of Hobson, Beverly (Brian) Schwend of Forsythe and Charlene (Randy) Jolliff of Poulsbo, Wash.; brothers, Don (Louise) Wilber of Dewey, Ariz., Art Wilber of Sacramento, Calif., Everett Wilber of Hobson, Perry (Sue) Wilber of Lewistown, Clifford (Lois) Wilber of Lewistown, Herb Wilber of Stanford and Eddie Wilber of Buffalo; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Carole's honor may be made to the Fifth Avenue Christian Church or to the Gift of Life Housing.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
