LEONA JENSEN obituary

CHINOOK - Leona Grace Steffen Jensen, 84 of Chinook died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the American Lutheran Church with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.

Leona

was born April 18, 1921, in Harlem to Arthur and Emma (Anacker) Steffen. She attended Snake Creek School, Harlem Schools and graduated from Chinook High School in 1938.

Leona married Kenneth Jensen in 1942. She was an active leader in Paradise Valley 4-H. She enjoyed her academic experience in library science at the University of Montana and worked 20 years as the Blaine County librarian in Chinook. She was innovative in bringing the first bookmobile to all parts of the county.

She was an active member of the American Lutheran Church in Chinook and participated in the making of many quilts that the church donated to Lutheran World Relief. Leona was a talented seamstress and her family and grandchildren reaped the rewards of her gifts. She was voted in as an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. Leona enjoyed cooking and baking especially German and Norwegian recipes. Leona could be found on early morning walks with friends, morning coffee and conversation at the senior center, or playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Jensen of Chinook; children David Jensen of Chinook, Linda Peterson of Great Falls and Steven (July) Jensen of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the American Lutheran Church or to Sweet Memorial Nursing Home.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
